Working at Bear & Company Publishing was an important opportunity in Marilyn's burgeoning career. She went from being a beginning designer to handling the entire department, bringing them into the computer age as Bear & Company expanded into a multi-million dollar enterprise. Although budget was always a consideration, she was always expected to push the envelope in design and technical possibilities, solving challenges in new technology along with the rest of the design world in the late eighties and early nineties.

One of the most incredible aspects of working at Bear & Company was the people who shared the vision and work load. Among the finest and most influential of these characters was her original Art Director, Angela Werneke. Angela's advanced talent as an illustrator (shown in the illustrations above) and impeccable understanding of good design gave Marilyn a foundation in design and illustration that have followed her throughout her career. Not only has Angela been a positive mentor in the arts, but a shining example of spiritual integrity and fortitude and remains a much cherished friend to this day. |
